ICSS ELECTIONS 2008
CANDIDATE FOR
ICSS PRESIDENT:

Nancy Peterson
Gilbert Community Schools
|
Nancy
has been teaching at Gilbert Community school since the fall of
1984. She is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University.
She has taught 7th grade Geography, 8th grade American History, and is
presently teaching high school World History, American Government,
Geography, and Economics. She is the curriculum writer for a national
lesson plan on the rule of law sponsored by the American Judicature
Society and she facilitates summer workshops with a number of AEA
around the state. During the summer of 2008 she will be teaching a
workshop on the rule of law and instructions on how to write curriculum
to Pennsylvania teachers at Susquehanna University. In 1996 she was
named Iowa Social Studies Teacher of the Year. She has been ICSS
Treasurer, Vice President, and is now running for her second term as
President.

Catherine Mein
Ballard High School
|
Catherine
has been teaching social studies since the fall of
1997. She started teaching U.S. history and Texas
history at Aldine Middle School in Houston. She
then taught all the high school social studies
classes at Villisca High School
in southwest Iowa. Since the fall of 2003, she has been teaching
world history at Ballard
High School,
where she is
also the social studies department chair. Catherine
graduated from Mount Holyoke College
with a degree in history and geography, and she completed her teacher
education
program at the University
of Iowa. In 2004, she traveled to China as part of Fulbright-Hays study
tour, and
in 2006, she traveled to Turkey
to attend and present at a conference for the Turkish Student
Internship
Program run jointly by Iowa State University
and Bilkent University
in Ankara. Catherine is running for her third term as
ICSS treasurer.

ICSS SECRETARY
|
(While Louise does not have a current digital photograph, she
does have a sense of humor. )
|
Louise
is a retired Social Studies Consultant and former teacher.
Before her retirement, she was the Social
Studies Consultant for Keystone Area Education Agency in Northeast Iowa for 16 years.
Prior to
that, she taught upper elementary and Middle School at Central Community School
in Elkader, for 15
years.
Since her retirement, she has remained active in the field
of education as an independent educational consultant in the area of
social
studies. She is currently a member of
the Iowa Core Curriculum writing team, the Geography Alliance of Iowa
Steering
Committee, and the Iowa Civic Initiative. She
also serves on the State Historical Society
Board of Trustees, and
works with Service Learning on state level projects. Louise
is running for her second term as ICSS secretary. |

Elaine VonBon
Davis County Middle School
|
Elaine received a
BA in history from Cornell College along with a secondary teaching
certification. She taught at
Maquoketa Junior High prior to accepting her current teaching position
at Davis County Middle School in Bloomfield, IA. Her social studies
teaching experience spans fifth-grade through eighth. Her
teaching has been focused on the history of the Eastern Hemisphere and
American History. She also coaches middle school girls'
track. For the past seven years she has been involved with ICSS
and has attended state, regional and national social studies
conferences. When not busy with school activites, she enjoys traveling,
reading and community activities.
