PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY
FOR SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS
JUNE 11-13, 2012

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: ICSS is the recipient of a grant focusing on "Rule of Law" and lesson design.  Twenty social studies teachers will be eligible to participate.  Teachers selected to attend will have the opportunity to examine in depth the US Constitution with a particular focus on Article III.  Participating teachers will design lessons consistent with the Iowa Core's characteristics of effective instruction.

Participating teachers will  write lesson plans focusing on the rule of law.  These lessons will be used in their classrooms during the following school year.  This workshop is open to all social studies teachers including but not limited to government and civics instructors.  For example, a history teacher might create a lesson on the impact of Hammurabi's code for use in a World History class.  Or psychology teacher might create a lesson on eye witness testimony, etc.

Each of the twenty teachers admitted to this workshop will receive a $200 stipend, free hotel room (if needed), and free license renewal credit.  Drake Credit will cost $100.

To apply for this workshop complete the application form and mail it to the address provided. Questions should be directed to Nancy Peterson at  nlp2111@gmail.com
