Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer among men between the ages of 15 to 35. Cause is unknown; however men who have had an undescended or partially descended testicle are at a higher risk of developing testicular cancer. If discovered in the early stages, it can be treated promptly and effectively and is often curable.
Frequent Signs and Symptoms:
- A firm swelling in one testicle discovered by accident or by self examination.
- No pain (usually)
- Sense of fullness in the scrotum
Self Examination:
- Monthly-after a warm bath or shower
- Roll each testicle between the thumb and fingers of both hands-feeling for any changes
- Examine the penis for lumps, sores, ulcers or changes in color
Following up:
- If you suspect an abnormality; see your health care provider as soon as possible
- Don’t panic-your health care provider will want to rule out other less serious causes.
