CAUSE
- Bacteria
- Virus
- Allergies
SYMPTOMS
- Redness in whites of the eyes
- Excess matter in the eye
- Redness and swelling of the inner lower lid
- Sandy, scratchy feeling in the eyes
TREATMENT
- If you are unable to open your eyes due to dried matter use a moist washcloth to lightly wipe the eyes.
- Do not cover eyes with a patch
- If prescribed, use eye drops according to direction.
PREVENTION
Conjunctivitis is contagious. Wash your hands thoroughly after treating or touching your eye. Avoid eye rubbing. The condition can be transferred from one eye to the other.
INSERTING EYE DROPS
If eye drops are prescribed, insert in the following manner:
- Pull the lower lid down with two fingers making a little pouch and put the drops in there.
- Close the eye to let the drops move around.
- Be sure the dropper is clean and does not touch any surface.
- Do not share eye drops.
