Constipation

Symptoms:
Normal frequency of bowel movements varies. Constipation is the passage of hard stools with possible associated bloating and cramping.

Home Care/Self Treatment:

  • Increase intake of dietary fiber – fresh fruits, vegetables, whole-grain cereals and breads
  • Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day
  • Increase your physical activity
  • Drink warm beverages

Seek Medical Attention if:

  • Severe abdominal pain, swelling or vomiting
  • No bowel movement for 7 days without response to home care measures
  • Fever
