Cold Sore

Symptoms:

  • Small fluid filled blisters on a raised painful area of the skin – usually lips and mouth
  • Pain
  • Tingling

Home Care/Self Treatment:

  • Rest
  • Avoid irritating foods
  • OTC pain relievers
  • OTC cold sore treatments may be helpful (Abreva)
  • Avoid exposing other areas to virus and spreading virus

Seek Medical Attention if:

  • Frequent intolerable bouts which could be treated with prescription medication
  • Signs of infection – increased redness, swelling, drainage, or fever
  • Blister present beyond 2 weeks
