Symptoms:
- Small fluid filled blisters on a raised painful area of the skin – usually lips and mouth
- Pain
- Tingling
Home Care/Self Treatment:
- Rest
- Avoid irritating foods
- OTC pain relievers
- OTC cold sore treatments may be helpful (Abreva)
- Avoid exposing other areas to virus and spreading virus
Seek Medical Attention if:
- Frequent intolerable bouts which could be treated with prescription medication
- Signs of infection – increased redness, swelling, drainage, or fever
- Blister present beyond 2 weeks
