Brief Biographical Sketch: Andrew R. Gilpin

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Oct. 4, 1948, I grew up in Mason, Michigan, where I graduated from high school in 1966. I received three degrees from Michigan State University: B.S. (Psychology), 1969; M.A. (Psychology), 1971; Ph.D. (Developmental Psychology), 1975.

While in grad school, I taught statistics and developmental psychology classes at Michigan State, where I also spent a year on the faculty. I also taught at Jackson Community College (and at Southern Michigan Prison). Since 1974 I have been a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Northern Iowa, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. While there I served several years as a college administrator, but returned to full time "professing" in 1981.

I've been a Full Professor since 1986. I teach a variety of courses, as my home page indicates. However, my main concentration in teaching is in statistical applications and computing applications in psychology. I've edited several books, and written over 50 articles published in professional journals; I've also written a half-dozen computer programs that have been commercially published (and God knows how many that haven't).

My current research interests center on experimental statistics, performance appraisal, and perception of visual stimuli.

I'm married to Joan, and live in Cedar Falls, Iowa; our adult children, Nancy (with her husband Paul, daughter Olivia, and son Marcus), and Jeff, live respectively in Minneapolis, and Houston. My hobbies include bicycling, listening to big-band music, and photography.
