Environment Sediment Analysis Lab

The UNI Department of Geography's Sedimentology Laboratory includes facilities for standard physical, chemical, and mineralogical characterization of soils and sediments. Our laboratory is equipped with a Beckman-Coulter LS 13-320 laser diffraction particle size analyzer, a Rigaku Miniflex X-ray diffraction system for bulk mineralogy, a Meiji spectrographic microscope for thin-section and point-count mineralogy, a Spectrophotometer for elemental analyses of P, Fe, and Al, and facilities for heavy mineral separation, organic carbon/organic matter, carbonate, and bulk density analysis. The department also has a trailer-mounted Giddings hydraulic soil sampling and sediment coring and drilling machine.
