Environment Sediment Analysis Lab

This is an image of the Sediment Analysis LabThe UNI Department of Geography's Sedimentology Laboratory includes facilities for standard physical, chemical, and mineralogical characterization of soils and sediments. Our laboratory is equipped with a Beckman-Coulter LS 13-320 laser diffraction particle size analyzer, a Rigaku Miniflex X-ray diffraction system for bulk mineralogy, a Meiji spectrographic microscope for thin-section and point-count mineralogy, a Spectrophotometer for elemental analyses of P, Fe, and Al, and facilities for heavy mineral separation, organic carbon/organic matter, carbonate, and bulk density analysis. The department also has a trailer-mounted Giddings hydraulic soil sampling and sediment coring and drilling machine.
