As the new school year rolls around the GraFX Club has had the chance to elect its second president into office. Stephanie Fitzgerald, the newly appointed president, has already started building the club and creating many opportunities for the members. One of the activities that the club has planned for this semester is creating their own brochure to have to offer anyone that is interested in joining the club. Grafx club provides numerous opportunites for its members by allowing them to put forth their creative skills and applying those skills to various services. The market that we work with involves UNI faculty, staff and students as well as local businesses & organizations in the Cedar Valley area. Members have the chance to gain real world experiences outside of the classroom, which allows them to enhance their resumes & have a better understanding of the industry. By working hands on with the local businesses of the Cedar Valley area, Grafx club is able to associate and familiarize themselves with professionals in the industry and community. Stephanie feels that this is an excellent opportunity for the members to get a real hand on experience for what it takes to start and finish a design project in the Graphic Communications field. Also, there is a business in Cedar Falls, BIKETECH that has asked the GraFX Club to design their business card, brochure and menu board for their store. A few other ideas that Stephanie has planned for the club are designing and printing t-shirts for organizations and spring breakers, elaborating and expanding the website, and creating calendars and greeting cards to hand out for the holidays. These are just a few of the many ideas that Stephanie and the club members have though of to help promote the club and get them known to others. Stephanie is also determined to raise money for the club and events in the future such as the Chicago convention that is held every fall semester. She also plans to offer services to the community that will promote the club but also enhance learning and give and opportunity to work hands on in the Graphic Communications field. Stephanie is doing her best to get the club known to businesses so they will be able to become more involved with not only campus activities and organizations, but also community events. GraFX Club is getting off to a great start with a great president and some good fundraising events to help get the club off their feet.
