National Geographic Society’s Geography Action: Rivers 2001
Rivers: Using, Changing, Saving
November 11-17, National Geographic Awareness Week
This theme gives people a great deal of latitude
for finding out about the importance of rivers!
We can all think of several ways we use rivers, how they have been changed or
how they have changed us, and maybe even some that need saved!
We are sponsoring a photography
contest and a poster contest, at three grade levels each.
There is also a TC contest for new lesson plans.
The National Geographic Society’s webpage has lots of fun interactive ideas.
Almost the entire GAW focus this year is to be found on the
NGS webpage,
rather than in packets.
Our packets will include the NGS poster, a river puzzle, and a brochure, a copy
of the Theme Days and report
form, information about the contests for students
and teacher consultants, a list of “river
partners” who could conceivably help you with programs, and a bibliography.
