Transfer Student Information

Want to transfer to UNI but are unsure what to do to get your financial aid? Look no further to find the information you will need to make the transition smoothly.

Transferring Financial Aid to UNI

The first step to ensuring that you will receive financial aid is to complete the FAFSA each year that you will be attending college. The FAFSA for the upcoming academic year is available January 1. Students should enter the UNI School Code: 001890 to allow your FAFSA results to be submitted to UNI.

NOTE: Students considering a mid-year transfer would want to also complete or update the current year FAFSA. The electronic transfer of FAFSA results can be done by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov and clicking on the Add/Delete School Code (in section 3). To continue you will need to have your Federal Student Aid PIN number. If you are unaware of your PIN number you can request a duplicate copy at www.pin.ed.gov.

Grants

Grants are a form of girt aid and are available to students with demonstrated financial need based on the results of the FAFSA.

Loans

If you have borrowed loans previously at other schools you will want to complete deferment paperwork to ensure that previous loans do not go into repayment after you transfer. Deferment forms can be obtained within the UNI Financial Aid Office. UNI utilizes the Federal Stafford Direct Loan program.

If accepting a loan, promissory notes must be completed, signed, and returned to activate the receipt of loan funds.

If a student has never borrowed loans at UNI before, they will need to complete Direct Loan promissory notes and entrance counseling. The amount of loan funding you qualify for depends on the disbursement of aid at your prior institution. Please contact the UNI Financial Aid Office with questions.

Student Employment

As a transfer student, there exist a number of benefits to student employment at UNI. An on-campus work experience would allow you to quickly become integrated within the UNI community, in addition to networking with faculty and staff. Hours of employment are extremely flexible, with student typically working 10-15 hours per week on campus.

Student employment opportunities can be found at the Online Job Board, where you’ll be able to view both on and off campus, work-study and non-work study opportunities.
