Current Students

FAFSA
The FAFSA is your first step to applying for financial aid. New FAFSA’s become available each January 1 and must be completed for the upcoming academic year in order to receive financial aid.

Grants
Grant awards are forms of “gift aid” and do not have to be repaid. Grant awards are based on FAFSA results and availability at the time of the award notification being created. A complete listing of all of grant opportunities is available HERE.

Scholarships
Ever wondered what types of scholarships are available within your major? The UNI Scholarship Directory and UNIversity Scholarship Application are now available. Scholarship deadlines can vary, however February 15 is the most common deadline date for current students.

UNI Sophomores can apply for the UNI Roy J. Carver Scholarship. Deadline April 1.

Loans
Loans are forms of self-help financial aid that must be repaid after you graduate or leave school. You must complete the FAFSA form each year to determine which types of loans you qualify for.

UNI utilizes the Stafford Direct Loan program. Beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year students must accept their loans each year prior to the loan crediting to their U-Bill. Loan acceptance should be completed on your Award Notification, available through MyUNIverse.

Private educational loans are available when Direct Loan eligibility is exhausted. The private education loan comparison chart is a great way to begin researching various lenders. Prior to receiving a private loan students must meet with a counselor in the UNI Financial Aid Office and complete a private loan education packet. Private education loans are generally the last option for a student when funding their education.

Student Jobs
Working on campus can serve as an excellent way to gain new skills and meet tons of great people. The UNI Online Job Board is your place to find on and off campus employment. Students must be enrolled in at least half-time credit hours (6 for undergraduates, 5 for graduate students) to qualify to work on campus. More information on student employment eligibility can be found on the Student Employment homepage.
