Aid Authorization for Miscellaneous Charges
In compliance with federal regulations, the university must obtain voluntary permission from students to apply their federal financial aid proceeds to pay for current year charges other than tuition, fees, room and board on the student’s account.
The online authorization can be obtained by logging into MyUNIverse and clicking into the Student Center tab. Within the Finances section a student will be able to click on Account Inquiry. Students will then access the Account Services tab and click on Student Permissions.
Why is this authorization needed?
Federal financial aid (Title IV aid**) credits your current year u-bill and is applied to tuition, mandatory fees, and contracted housing/meal plans. Title IV aid may be used to pay miscellaneous charges such as parking permit, laundry charges, event tickets, etc., on your current year u-bill with your written authorization.
**Examples of Title IV funds include: Pell Grant, SEOG, TEACH Grant, Perkins loans, Direct Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans, and Parent PLUS loans.
This authorization will remain in effect until you leave UNI or you revoke it. You may revoke your authorization at any time by completing a form available from a Student Accounts Specialist located in UNI Student Accounts, 103 Gilchrist, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0008.
What if I have a past due balance?
If current year financial aid is greater than current year charges, a refund will be generated. The student may in turn use their refund to pay all or part of their past due bill. Carrying a past due balance will result in the inability to register for future semesters, and could ultimately result in past due charges being sent to collection.
