Week 8 Question

1.You read three articles:

  • Harvard Law Professor Benkler is known for his phrase "the networked public sphere," which he sees as a positive development for democratic communication.
  • Stanford Law Professor Lawrence Lessig echos much of what Benkler says, but has some specific warnings about copyright laws.
  • University of Iowa media scholar Kembrew Mcleod extends the discussion about copyright even further, and offers many examples of "ridiculous" applications of copyright law.

So according to these public scholars, what are the hopes for the networked public sphere, what are the pitfalls, and what are their recommendations for our internet future?
