CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES ~ SPRING 2009

Continuing Education courses are held at the UNI-CUE Monday through Thursday afternoon and evenings, with at least four classes utilizing the facility each evening.  At least two staff persons work in the building each evening.  UNI-CUE policies and class schedule are listed below.

Our goal is to make your experience at the UNI-CUE the best possible.  Every effort will be made to

accommodate faculty and student requests.  Please contact the Assistant Director of the UNI-CUE by email (nancy.scoggins@uni.edu) or call 433-1271 with your requests or concerns.

UNI-CUE CLASS GUIDELINES

PARKING:

Parking is available in the UNI-CUE parking lot, the city lot North of Sycamore Street and on East 6th Street (meters are not enforced after 5:00 pm).

Parking is permitted at the South end of the building after 5:00 p.m. Because this is a privately leased space, vehicles will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense if parked there prior to 5:00 p.m.

Parking is prohibited in restricted locations indicated by "Handicapped Parking" and "University Vehicle Only" signage.  Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed at the owner's expense.

BUILDING ENTRANCE:

Students may enter the building through the East main door.  Other doors to the building are secured and serve as emergency exits only.

CLASSROOMS:

Seating may be rearranged during class, but please have students return all furniture to the original setup at the end of class.  Please ask your students to keep the classrooms as neat as possible.

Classrooms are checked regularly to see that white board markers and erasers are provided in each room.  White boards are washed regularly.  A supply of extra markers and erasers is kept at the front desk.

CANCELLATION OF CLASSES:

UNI-CUE staff will not notify faculty or students regarding cancellation of University classes due to severe weather.  The UNI-CUE follows University policy regarding cancellation of classes, university closure, etc.  For information about weather-related reduced operations or the closure of the University, tune in to radio or television stations that have been identified by the Department of University Marketing and Public Relations for this purpose or refer to the UNI home page on the Web.  In addition, the UNI Alert System will notify students, faculty, and staff by cell phone, landline phone, e-mail, and text-message regarding cancellation classes, university closure, etc.

UNI ALERT SYSTEM:

The UNI Alert System notifies the campus community of emergencies and threats to physical safety in emergency situations: tornado, violence, hazardous material incident, cancelled classes, university closure, etc. Notification will be made by cell phone, landline phone, e-mail and text-message.

EMERGENCY SHELTER AREA:

During severe weather (tornadoes, etc.), all staff and students must go directly to the main hall in the UNI-CUE basement.

SMOKING:

By Iowa law, the UNI-CUE is a smoke-free environment.  Smoking will not be permitted anywhere on the UNI-CUE premises, including the parking lots.

2nd FLOOR LOUNGE:

A lounge is located on the 2nd floor for students and faculty.  A microwave and a computer kiosk are available in the lounge area.  When weather permits, students may use the patio located on the South end of the building.

COMPUTER LAB:

The Computer Lab is available to UNI students from 8:30 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday.  A computer kiosk has been installed in the 2nd floor lounge.

PHOTOCOPIES:

The photocopy machine is for UNI-CUE use only.  Students must make other arrangements to photocopy classroom notes.

VENDING MACHINES/WATER FOUNTAIN/RESTROOMS:

Vending machines, water fountain, and restrooms are located on the lower level of the building.  If a vending machine takes money but does not dispense product, contact the UNI-CUE staff at the front desk.

UNI-CUE staff do not have access to the vending machines and cannot refund money, but they will provide you with a coin envelope.  Write the required information (your name, date, name of machine (Pepsi or snack), amount of money lost, and class you are attending/teaching)on the envelope and return it to UNI-CUE staff.  When a refund is received from the vendor, the envelope will be held for you at the receptionist desk.

RECYCLING:

All visitors to UNI-CUE are asked to recycle pop bottles.  Recycling bins are located in the Vending area in the basement and in the 2nd floor lounge.
