ABOUT ETS
What is Educational Talent Search?
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a college preparatory program co-funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). It is designed to empower program participants with the academic skills and motivation necessary to be successful in high school and to ultimately complete college.
Who Can Participate in Educational Talent Search?
The U.S. Department of Education requires that at least two-thirds of ETS participants come from a low-income and first-generation family (neither parent has a four-year degree). The other one-third of participants come from either a low-income or first-generation family.
The UNI ETS Program accepts applications from students who attend a public middle or high school in the Waterloo Iowa Community School District (Bunger, Central, Hoover, Logan, East, Expo, or West), high school graduates, and high school/college dropouts living in Black Hawk County.
All selected students must have demonstrated a "potential for completing a college education" as measured by standardized tests, high school grades, and written recommendations from a school administrator, counselor, or teacher,
