200:180g Academic Skills Achievement Program

The Academic Skills Achievement Program offers UNI students the opportunity to provide tutoring/academic assistance to children and youth in a variety of educational settings. UNI students of any academic major can perform this much needed community service while at the same time earn two hours of elective credit. This unique course offers a practical, hands on experience in guiding children and youth toward positive and successful learning outcomes.

Tutoring at the various sites begin the week of September 11, 2000. Orientation sessions are conducted on the UNI campus beginning the week of August 28, 2000. Tutors will be notified of meeting locations and meet according to the tutoring schedule.

Transportation to and from each tutoring session will be arranged during the orientation sessions.

Course materials are provided during the orientation sessions and throughout the semester. Tutors report to Site Supervisors who review and assign point values for each assignment toward the determination of a final grade.

Students with a junior, senior, or graduate classification can register for this course along with their other Fall 2000 courses. Students with freshman or sophomore classification wishing to register for this course must complete a drop/add slip and obtain a signature from Kathy Peters.
