The IOWA MATHEMATICS & SCIENCE ACADEMY (IMSA) at the University of Northern Iowa is a program designed to strengthen and support the interest of Iowa high school students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The program has an academic year component designed around individual scientific research projects or volunteer hours with STEM-related businesses and organizations. In addition to these project experiences, IMSA students receive monthly academic counseling and support from IMSA staff.
The program’s summer residential component is conducted on the UNI campus. Program participants live on campus for five weeks while taking courses in Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, and College Writing and Research. In addition to coursework, students also experience daily recreational and enrichment activities. The summer component of the IMSA project allows students to experience academic aspects of college life while still in high school.
