Faculty in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and College of Education; Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services are involved in many areas of environmental research, such as bioremediation, environmental toxicology, chemistry, air quality, and hydrology. In addition to research within academic departments, students may, under supervision by the graduate advisory committee, work on research projects sponsored by the Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center (RRTTC). The RRTTC, through a program of competitive grants awarded to UNI faculty and staff, promotes the development of alternative technologies for recycling and reuse. Students also have the opportunity to work with the staff of the Center for Energy and Environmental Education, on projects that focus on energy use, land use, materials use and consumption, and population growth.
