John Wilson Swope

Associate Professor
Baker Hall 222
319.273.6203
Areas of Specialty:  English Education, Composition Pedagogy, Creative Nonfiction

John Wilson Swope is the author of the six-volume series The Shakespeare Teacher’s Activity Library (Pearson) of reading process-oriented instructional materials.  The series provides multiple means to explore six plays commonly taught in secondary schools:  Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Macbeth, Much Ado about Nothing, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

In his spare time, Swope writes creative nonfiction, enjoys cooking, and gardening.  He and his spouse, Mary Jo Wagner, and overly spoiled miniature schnauzer Josie are fortunate to live in their recently renovated mid-twentieth century contemporary nestled in the woods.
