The Department is also home to an incredibly gifted faculty, a faculty devoted to a balance of teaching, scholarship, and service to the University and local community. As a matter of fact, I'm proud to say the “teacher-scholar” approach to academia is the norm for faculty in this department. A quick glance through the scholarship produced by the faculty shows scholarship/creative activity of all types — and in all areas of study within those represented in the Department. These fine and dedicated faculty members also put — as one University slogan puts it so appropriately — “Students First” when conducting their classroom experiences. This balance of teaching and scholarship translates into a first-rate educational experience for students in all programs of study housed within the Department.
Students are also involved in departmental activities through such active groups as Sigma Tau Delta, UNI-COTE, and English Club. In addition, internships and related activities through the North American Review and Inner Weather provide important, and practical, experience for students in our programs.
The University of Northern Iowa is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Cedar Falls and our partner city, Waterloo, have a combined population of about a hundred thousand. This translates into a “small town” atmosphere in a setting still large enough to provide the goods, services, and entertainment one would find in much larger cities. In short, this is a fine place in which to live and pursue educational goals.
Thank you for your interest in our programs. Please do not hesitate to contact me — or any of the departmental coordinators — for additional information.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey S. Copeland
