FACULTY POSITION: CREATIVE WRITING

POSITION: Assistant Professor, tenure-track, begin Fall 2001; nationally competitive salary and superior benefits. Attractive teaching load: teach undergraduate and graduate courses in writing poetry and fiction, as well as specialized and general literature courses and General Education (writing, literature, or humanities).

QUALIFICATIONS--REQUIRED: Ph.D. earned by June 2001 (specific evidence of completion date required); specialty in creative writing, with M.A. or M.F.A. in creative writing desired; publication of poetry and/or fiction, preferably both; evidence of ability to teach poetry and fiction through workshop pedagogy and to direct creative theses; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, creative activity, and publishing.

The Department has an interest in versatile applicants who may also have expertise in magazine editing, creative nonfiction, professional/technical writing, or multicultural literature.

DEPARTMENT: 34 tenure-track faculty. General Education courses in writing, literature, and humanities. B.A. majors, minors, and teacher-licensure in English and TESOL; B.A. minors in Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and Film Studies. M.A. programs in TESOL and in English with emphases in Literature, Creative Writing, and Secondary Teaching. Over 350 undergraduate majors and over 100 M.A. students in English and TESOL. Home of North American Review and Literary Magazine Review.

UNIVERSITY: Northern Iowa, with approximately 13,600 students, is a residential university, one of three state-supported universities in Iowa. The University has five undergraduate colleges, a graduate college, and about 900 faculty. The University's Donald Rod Library features excellent electronic research resources, and its collection includes over 870,000 volumes, 700,000 microforms, 3,200 periodical subscriptions, and nearly 600,000 documents.

COMMUNITY: The metropolitan area of Cedar Falls and Waterloo has a population of about 110,000 and is the commercial, cultural, and political hub of northeast Iowa; it offers an extensive range of excellent educational, cultural, artistic, medical, and recreational resources, facilities, and programs.
