Emeritus Professor Lyle K. Alberts, of Cedar Falls, died on
January 18, 2000 after a brief illness. A memorial service was held at the Commons on the UNI campus on
Saturday, January 22, at 1:30 p.m.
Lyle was born in Clear Lake, South Dakota, in 1934, and served in the military
from 1954 through 1955. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's
degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and did post-graduate work at the
University of Hawaii. Lyle spent several years as a social studies teacher
in the Algona Community Schools before coming to UNI as an Assistant Professor
in the Department of Political Science in 1964. He retired from UNI in
December, 1997.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Joyce, also a former UNI employee, and their three
children and six grandchildren: Debra Grummer (husband, Jeff) of Ames,
Iowa (their children Megan, Matthew and Molly); David Alberts (wife, Lynn) of
Mountain Lakes, New Jersey (and their children Michael, Emily and Patrick); and
Steven Alberts of Boston, Massachusetts.
