The Fifteenth Annual UNIEA Luncheon was
held on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the St. Stephen's Center on West 23rd Street
in Cedar Falls. The social hour began at 11:30 a.m. As you entered St.
Stephen's you could hear the music of "The California
Street Sax Quartet" being played on the lower level of the
Center.

As you descended to the lower level there
was a registration table and sitting close by was the "The California Street
Sax Quartet."

There were 69 people in attendance but
unfortunately Robert (Dean) Talbott who arranged the event for the Association
was not able to attend the event. His wife, Alice, told us that Dean was in the
hospital for tests. Also William (Bill) Maucker and his wife Dee were not able
to attend this year since Bill recently returned home from the hospital.
Most of the attendees were from the Cedar
Falls/Waterloo area but a number of members traveled a
considerable distance to attend the
event. Mary Nan and Richard Aldridge traveled from Texas
and Robert Gish came from New Mexico.
The greatest distance traveled was by Verner Jensen and his wife Elaine
(shown below) who traveled from
Merritt Island, Florida.

After a nice luncheon, Arnold Freitag
(UNIEA’s current Chairman) made several announcements and Len Froyen gave the
Invocation. This was followed by Sue Doody who gave a slide presentation on the
new Cedar Falls Library. Starting with outside photographs of the facility, Sue
provided us with a “Virtual Tour” of the building and its various sections and
departments. For those of us who have not had the opportunity yet to visit the
new building, Sue’s presentation was very enlightening and informative. For
more information on the new library facility please go here
