Artificial gecko hairs are on a nanoscale and are simulated with an MPM algorithm. The first picture shows white artificial gecko hairs placed art random and are anchored to a complaint surface and the adhesion behavior of the hairs is studied. The video shows the yellow section is anchored, the green section moves freely and the orange section is pushed up or down to simulate peeling. The fibers are aligned in rows to first study peeling with no error in placing fibers during manufacturing. The bottom picture represents a nano wheel that could be used for nano-robots. The fibers are compliant and the wheel is rolling without slipping, but many more boundary conditions can be investigated.
