An MPM algorithm is utilized to simulate the impact of a lead/steel AK-47 bullet with a ceramic composite vest. The initial bullet speed is 710 m/sec. The green particles anchor the vest to the simulation box (5 cm along the direction of travel; blue rods show boundaries), white particles represent ceramic (5 mm thick) and red the protective vest (2 mm thick) itself. Video 1 is a simulation of a lead bullet embedding in a ceramic composite vest. The method is similar to that used for the other movies, but the bullet is allowed to fail at maximum tensile strength. Video 2 shows a simulation of a lead bullet creating what would be a blunt trauma wound to the wearer of a ceramic composite vest. The vest components are half as thick as what is shown in the other two movies. Video 3 shows a steel bullet penetrating and exiting through the Kevlar vests.
