2012 Summer Undergraduate Research Conference

Alison Schell presents her research.

The Earth Science department was featured prominently in the annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium held in Seerley hall at UNI on July 27, 2012.  The keynote speaker was Dr. Lynn Brant, Professor Emeritus of Geology, speaking on the topic "Not Just Rocks".  Dr. Brant highlighted the very interdisciplinary nature of geology as well as its importance to many areas of today's society.  The keynote address was followed by an opportunity to view the various undergraduate research projects.  Amongst these was the poster paper by Alison Schell (Geology BS & Earth Science BA major) and Dr. Mohammad Iqbal concerning The Study of Nitrogen Sources in the Municipal Wells of Cedar Falls, Iowa.  This research was part of Alison's Summer Undergraduate Research Program Fellowship, which, along with the Symposium, are sponsored by the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences.
