Welcome!

Gerontology is the multidisciplinary study of the issues associated with aging and the aging process. It is concerned with the psychological, sociological, behavioral, and other social aspects of aging. Professionals in gerontology work in a variety of settings, including community organizations, government agencies, retirement communities, long-term care facilities, educational settings, research institutes, and business. Because the proportion of older adults in our society is increasing rapidly, there are many opportunities for careers in gerontology!

At UNI, the gerontology program is offered jointly by the following departments:
• Accounting
• Management
• Design, Textiles, Gerontology, & Family Studies
• Health Promotion and Education
• Social Work
• Philosophy & Religion
• Psychology

The program is administered through the Department of Design, Textiles, Gerontology, & Family Studies.

Students who choose a gerontology program at UNI have three options: the gerontology long term care major, the gerontology social sciences major, and the gerontology minor.
