We are excited to offer you the opportunity to present a program at the 24th Annual UNI RA Conference. Presenting a program is a great way for both presenters and participants to benefit from the sharing of ideas, educating others, connecting with peers and colleagues from other institutions and gaining new skills that may positively impact your career and your life! We hope you plan to take advantage of this great opportunity.
In an effort to provide a wide variety of quality programs and to share the resources and insights from each institution, every delegation that registers for the conference is expected to submit a minimum of one program proposal.
Programs are targeted to either RAs or Advisors. We would like to strongly encourage professional staff to present in the Advisor Programming Track. This will provide a great experience for all advisors attending the conference.
Those submitting program proposals will be notified no later than January 5, 2014, whether your program(s) has / have been accepted.
We will be offering two program formats:
Pick Me Up Programs (30 Minutes)
Pick Me Up Programs are a snapshot of a hobby/interest that would entertain, inspire or motivate your peers and colleagues. Click the link at the top of this page for the Program Proposal Form. Program Proposal Forms are due by December 13, 2013.
Traditional Programs (45 Minutes)
Traditional Programs are designed for presenting information in a specific topic area. In these sessions your goal is to educate, inform, present, and/or gather information from participants. Click the link at the top of this page for the Program Proposal Form. Program Proposal Forms are due by December 13, 2013.
Our Traditional Programming Structure easily addresses the needs of the audience. This structure is divided into three categories and described below: Personal Development, Team Development and Program Development.
This category focuses on the individual. Any program that works to strengthen an individual mentally, physically, spiritually or otherwise falls under this category. Programs could encompass diversity, personal wellness, stress management, individual leadership skills, time management, student affairs, what the RA takes from the RA position after their time as an RA, and many more topics that affect the individual.
This category focuses on the group, as an entity, and encompasses programs that deal with how to strengthen a team. Programs can include retreats, recruitment, motivating groups, fundraising or other topics that may affect a group.
This category focuses on developing and implementing programs. Small scale programming focusing on floor/house programs, medium scale programs focused on hall-sized events or large, campus-wide programming are all possible in this category.
As you develop your proposal, these questions may guide you in creating a program plan and description that provides accurate information for delegates to determine why they may be interested in attending your session.
Awards will be given during the closing ceremony of our conference. Awards will be given for the top 5 traditional programs and the top pick-me-up program for visiting presenters and the top 2 traditional programs and the top pick-me-up program for presenters from UNI.
Feedback and Evaluations
Every presenter will get a copy of evaluations to offer feedback on their performance. In addition, the evaluations will be used to determine the awards as described above. To maintain a sense of fairness and equality, we ask that you do not score presenters from your own schools.
All rooms come equipped with ELMOs, and a computer (with audio and video capability) with access to internet. You will be able to (and are encouraged to) bring a flash drive and use it in our computers. If you bring a laptop or tablet that you wish to connect to our projection equipment, come prepared with the necessary adapters and a back up flash drive of your materials. You can play CDs and DVDs in our systems, as well.
If you have any questions or concerns about your technology needs, please contact us as soon as possible. We will have limited tech support, but will do our best to assist you.
I encourage you to consider this invitation to present a program and make this year’s conference experience unforgettable. If you have questions, please feel free to call (319-273-7051) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to seeing you at the 2014 UNI RA Conference!
