The following are DOR policies regarding promotions and solicitation in the residence halls:
Any recognized UNI student organization or department may use university facilities to promote or hold a fundraiser. However, they must get approval through the Student Involvement and Activities Center in Maucker Union BEFORE reserving those facilities. When house or hall governments do fundraising within their own hall, only the residence life coordinator’s approval is necessary.
Door-to-door selling or soliciting is prohibited, except for house governments that have received permission from members of the house.
Individuals (except RAs) may sell legal items from their rooms but only with the full approval of the roommate/s. Advertising may be done ONLY on that room’s door. No other residence hall facilities (except bulletin boards in dining center hallways) may be used by individuals to advertise, display or sell products.
While demonstration parties may occur in student rooms, no sales may occur at the time of the party. Once the seller makes contact with the resident a second time, that resident is strongly encouraged to speak with a trusted advisor prior to signing any contracts or making major purchases.
Those responsible for materials taped, tacked or otherwise affixed to the inside or outside of any of the residence halls or dining centers may be billed for the time and expense of removing such materials. Trespassing charges may also be filed against those doing the postings.
