Services

Copy Machines

Each hall has a copy machine located in the hall office, where students can make black and white copies as well as color copies. Contact the hall office if you need assistance or refunds.

Computer Labs

Seven computer labs are located in DOR facilities for student access and convenience. The Towers Center houses a lab in the upper level. The Bridge Lab is located on the second floor lounge connecting Hagemann and Noehren Halls. Campbell, Lawther and ROTH each have a computer lab. Redeker Center houses a lab located close to DOR offices. All labs were developed in cooperation with the DOR and Information Technology Service (ITS). In addition, there are five other labs located around campus.

E-mail Terminals

There is one computer in the lobby of most residence halls for students to access their e-mail. No other computer access is available on these machines.

Guest Rooms

A limited number of guest rooms are available in the residence halls for parents of residents and university guests who need overnight accommodations on campus. They are furnished with beds, TVs, small refrigerators and have an adjoining private bathroom. A nominal charge will be assessed for use of the guest rooms. Contact the DOR in Redeker Center (3-2333) to check availability and make reservations.

Hall Office

Important information and services are available to residents daily during the academic year. Hall offices are staffed by a secretary, students (desk assistants) and RAs. Assistance with directory information, change, laundry card sales, equipment check-out and lost keys is provided along with many other services.

Illness

Resident assistants are certified in CPR and first aid and are trained health aides who can give assistance to residents in need of minor health care. They have basic materials such as thermometers and bandages on hand.

Laundry Facilities

Each hall has a laundry room equipped with washers and dryers. Instructions are posted on the machines or questions may be directed to the hall office. Maintenance is done on a regular basis to minimize inconvenience to residents. Residents can assist with this by following machine use instructions and reporting misuse of the equipment to Coinmach and to residence hall staff. Request refunds from Coinmach at 800-277-2418. Laundry is paid for by charging to a students' uCard or by using quarters.

Routine maintenance procedures will sometimes require that water be shut off to the hall. If this happens, rust may appear in the water after it is turned back on. Avoid doing laundry when rust is in the water. If you notice rust in your laundry, keep it wet and consult with staff at the hall office.

Lost and Found

Inquire about lost and found items in the residence hall office. Lost property will be held for 60 days, after which it will be given to charity or thrown away.

Mail

Mail is delivered daily, except Sundays, to the hall office or mailroom area. Each resident is assigned a mailbox according to their room number.

You will receive a notice in your mailbox when you receive a package. Bring your ID and the package slip to the office/mailroom during regular office hours to pick up the package.

Whenever you move, make certain that publishers, friends, etc. are informed of your new address and that you have completed a forwarding address card at the office. Mail cannot be forwarded if you do not complete a forwarding address card. First class mail will be forwarded for one year only.

Second class mail (e.g. magazines and newspapers) will be forwarded for 60 days.
There is a U.S. and campus mail drop box in or near each of the residence hall offices. The scheduled hours of operation are posted at each mailroom or hall office.

Newspapers

The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier or the Des Moines Register are available daily in most hall offices and may be read in the lobby area.

Recycling

Residents are encouraged to participate in the recycling program in their house and hall. Many items such as cardboard, plastics, newspapers and cans can be recycled to reduce the amount of products going to landfills. Students can assist in this effort by placing these items in the appropriate recycling bins.

Study Areas

Most halls have areas that have been designated and furnished for studying outside one’s room. Many houses designate their house lounges as study areas during designated times. Consult with house officers, RAs or hall office staff for study facility locations.

Vending Machines

Each hall has vending machines in various locations. Contact the hall office if you need assistance or refunds.
