Returning Student Contracting


Online Room Recontracting

You may participate in Online Room Recontracting and select your 2008-2009 hall and room in the University of Northern Iowa Residence Hall if:

  • You live in the University Residence Halls in Spring semester 2008
  • You are a registered student at UNI for Spring 2008
  • You are 18 years of age at the time you complete the on-line contract (if you will not be 18, you must complete the following form and obtain the signature of a parent or guardian.)

2008 Recontracting Schedule

  • Shull Hall Open House: 2:00 - 4:30
  • ROTH Open House: 3:00 - 6:00
Monday, January 21 - Wednesday, January 30
  • Current ROTH residents may sign up for their same room.
  • Current ROTH residents wishing to move to another space and current residence hall students wishing to move to ROTH must complete the online ROTH application.
Monday, January 28 - Friday, February 8 at 5:00 pm
  • Residents can sign up on the single room request list online. Preference will be given to those students who sign up on this list one of these days. Assignments are based on number of applicants' consecutive semesters in the Department of Residence system.
Monday, February 4- Sunday, February 10
  • Same Single Room: Current singles residents who wish to return to their single must log on and sign their 2008-2009 contract or they will lose their single (This includes Shull Hall) .
  • Same Double or Suite Room: Residents may log on and recontract for their same double room. To sign up for your same suite, you must complete a paper contract in the hall office.
Friday, February 8
  • ROTH room offers will be distributed.
Monday, February 11 - Sunday, February 17
  • Single rooms will be offered and assigned to students on the single room request list.
Monday, February 11 - Wednesday, February 13
  • Same house: Residents may log on and recontract for another room in their same house - including Shull Hall.
Thursday, February 14 - Friday, February 15
  • Same hall: Residents may log on and recontract for another room in their same hall - including Shull Hall.
Friday, February 15
  • Initial ROTH offers must be either accepted or declined by this date.
Monday, February 18 - Sunday, February 24
  • Students displaced from their current spaces will be able to sign up for open spaces.
  • If students are currently in single rooms, they may be able to contract for a single room.
  • Students affected include:
    • Springboard houses (Bender, Campbell, Dancer, Hagemann & Noehren)
    • RAs not returning to the RA position
    • Physically challenged rooms
    • Ground floor of Shull Hall
  • RAs can sign up for a space. (They should get on the single room request list early if they are interested in a single room.)
Monday, February 25- Sunday, March 24
  • Any available hall, house, room: Residents may log on and contract for any available room in any of the residence halls (not including ROTH or Shull)

Access

You may recontract on-line between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

CatID

In order to access the recontracting process you will need to log on using your CatID. This is the same process you use for other university on-line features requiring security.

Same Double or Suite Room Monday, February 4 - Sunday, February 10

Residents who want to remain in the same room will need to recontract during this time. If you are interested in living with a different roommate, specify the new roommate's full legal name and birthdate. During this time, no other selections can be made. If you are currently in a suite and want your same room, please go to your hall office and complete a paper contract. If you do not select your same room during this time, it will become available to others in your house beginning Minday, February 11 or to anyone beginning Monday, February 25.

Same Single Room Monday, February 4 - Sunday, February 10

Physical single rooms are designed for one student and currently cost $800 more than double occupancy rooms per academic year. This amount may increase for 2008-2009. A number of double rooms are available for single occupancy. These larger designated singles currently cost $1100 more than double occupancy rooms per academic year and may also increase for 2008-2009.

Single Room Sign Up Monday, January 28 - Friday, February 8 at 5:00 p.m.

Get your name on the single room request list if you want a single room for next year. Prior lists will not be used. Assignments are based on applicant's number of consecutive semesters in the residence hall system. The system will accept up to three single room choices at one time. If you return to the online process to change one or more of your choices, you are "starting over". The time-stamp on your single room request will be the last "change date" so it is to your advantage to make your single room choices early and carefully.

Notifications of single room offers will begin February 11 and will continue until all single room offers have been made and accepted. If you accept this assignment, you must log on and complete the contract within 48 hours. Your deadline will be communicated to you in writing.

Same House, Different Room Monday, February 11 - Wednesday, February 13

You may select any available room in your current HOUSE for 2008-2009. You may select a roommate during this process. During these times, only available rooms in your current house will show on the vacancy list.

Same Hall, Different House and Room Thursday, February 14 - Sunday, February 17

You may select any available room in your current HALL for 2008-2009. You may select a roommate during this process. During these times, only available rooms in your current hall will show on the vacancy list.

Displaced Students Monday, February 18 - Sunday, February 24
  • Student displaced from their current spaces will be able to sign up for open spaces.
  • If students are currently in designed single rooms, they can contract for a single room.
  • Students in single rooms are encouraged to sign up on the single room request list beginning January 28.
  • Students affected include: Springboard houses (Bender, Campbell, Dancer, Hagemann, & Noehren)
  • RAs can sign up for a space. (They should get on the single room requesst list early if they are interested in a single room.)
  • Ground floor of Shull Hall.
  • Those assigned to a room designed for physically challenged students who are not physically challenged.

Any available house, hall, room Monday, February 25 - Friday, May 9

Current residents may select any available room in any hall for 2008-2009. You may select a roommate during this process.

Roommate Preferences

If you have a roommate preference you must know your preferred roommate's full legal name and their birthdate and specify it during the recontracting process.

  • If the roommate is currently an on-campus resident, he/she will need to recontract online by May 9.
  • If the roommate is not currently an on-campus resident, the "match" will occur if the roommate preference information on both contracts matches and both contracts and prepayments are submitted by May 1.

Changing Your Contract

You may make changes to your contract by logging back into the recontracting system during the hours the system is available. You will also need to follow the designated recontracting times for same room, house, and hall.

Not Currently Registered

If you are not currently registered at UNI, you will need to complete a contract for new students or contact the Department of Residence at 319/273-2333 or 1-866-207-9411.

Won't be on campus during web-room recontracting

You will still be able to participate in the recontracting process even if you are not on campus. You will need to have access to the internet, then go to the following address: http://myuniverse.uni.edu.

Under 18

You must be 18 years of age to complete the on-line recontracting process. If you are not 18, please contact your hall secretary for further information.

Confirming your Recontract

Once you have made your recontracting selections, you will be required to click the 'I Agree to the Terms and Conditions' button. (If you select the 'I do not Agree to the Terms and Conditions' button, you will not have completed your contract.) This signifies that you agree to the terms and conditions of the housing and dining contract. You will see a confirmation screen to indicate that you have recontracted for your space in a residence hall. You should also print a copy of this confirmation page for your records. In addition, you will receive an email confirmation sent to your UNI email address.

Furniture Storage

You may request to have the bed ends, mattress, and bed springs stored before you move in for Fall 2008. Select the appropriate boxes on your contract. If you are recontracting for a space in Bartlett, Campbell or Lawther, this section does not apply. The loftable beds in Bartlett, Campbell and Lawther will remain in the room.

Student Teaching during Spring Semester

If you are going to student teach spring semester, please contract to live in one of the halls that is open during the semester break. These halls include: Bartlett, Bender, Dancer, Lawther, Noehren and Shull.

Currently Living Off Campus

Students currently living off-campus will need to complete a housing and dining contract which can be obtained at the Department of Residence office in Redeker Center or completed on-line. Returning Student Contracting is only available for current residents.

Contract Rules and Prepayment

A copy of the 2008-2009 Contract Terms and Conditions for recontracting is available on-line. Your hall office will also have a copy.

At the end of your web recontracting session, you will be asked to click on the button labeled 'I Agree to the Terms and Conditions'. This will serve as your electronic signature and indicate that you have read and agree to the following contract terms:

  1. I certify that I have read and understood and I hereby agree to the Residence Hall Contract Terms and Conditions for 2008-2009.
  2. I agree to pay the rate established by the Board of Regents of the State of Iowa for the University of Northern Iowa for the type of room and meal plan to which I am assigned.
  3. I understand the following cancellation schedule:

    • Before May 1: $200 prepayment forfeited

    • May 1 and after : $200 prepayment forfeited and a 40% penalty on remainder of academic year contract, plus inclusive weekly room and meal charges.

  4. I agree to pay the $200 prepayment and understand it will be billed to my e-bill immediately upon completing my contract. If I cancel my contract, I understand I will forfeit my $200 prepayment.

Applying to be an RA

All those interested in being Resident Assistant candidates should recontract for a space. If a job offer is extended and accepted, your contract will be changed as necessary.
