$1000 scholarships awarded to three dining student employees

Three scholarships have been awarded to University of Northern Iowa students who are part-time employees in Department of Residence Dining services.  The scholarship recipients are:
Bailey Wedeking, a student employee at Rialto
Ben Gipple, a student employee at Food Stores and
Bethany Chatterton, a student employee at Piazza

Each scholarship is for $1,000 and will be awarded in two payments, $500 in Fall 2013 and $500 in Spring 2014.  The amount of scholarships varies each year depending on the number of qualified applicants.

The dining services scholarship was established in 2000. It is funded by UNI staff members, Martin Brothers Distributing, the Darla Bell memorial fund and others.

University of Northern Iowa students who are employed by UNI dining services and plan a career related to the food service industry are eligible for the scholarships. Popular majors for students preparing for a food service career include, but are not limited to, management, marketing, management information systems and dietetics.

This scholarship is intended to be used during the following fall and spring semesters at the University of Northern Iowa and will be applied to the students’ university bills.
Applicants must be students who are enrolled full time, are in good standing, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Scholarship recipients are currently employed and maintain continuous employment with UNI Dining Services through 2013-2014.
Applicants complete two essays about their qualifications and their future plans.  Staff and faculty recommendations are part of the application process.
UNI Dining Services employs 1,206 students and has a student labor budget of approximately $2.41 million.  Matt Copp chairs the dining services scholarship selection committee.
