To check out books at the Rod Library, complete a visitors pass request at the library circulation desk.  There is no charge for borrowing privileges; you may check out up to 10 items.  You are welcome to use library facilities for studying.

Wellness/Recreation Center

You are able to use the Wellness/recreation Center after purchasing a membership.  Charge to the university bill, cash and checks are accepted when you sign up in WRC 101.

To park on campus you must purchase either a “C” ($54.70) or an “R” ($31.20) permit at the Department of Public Safety located on the lower level of Gilchrist Hall. Parking privileges may be revoked if violations are determined to be excessive. Permits sales begin Aug. 1.

Athletic events

Panther Passes for HCC students who are living on campus are sold by the Athletic Department. This can be added to your university bill.
Purchase a Panther Pass  through e-mail:

Request the Panther Pass, provide your UNI ID number and approve the charge to your university bill.                                                                                                       
Or purchase a Panther Pass in person at the UNI ticket office McLeod Center.
Get your Panther Pass at least 3 days before you want to access Panther Pass privileges.

Your Panther Pass will be a laminated ticket which you will present with your UNI ID card at events.
The Panther Pass also gets you into student performances in music and theater venues.

ResNet is UNI’s on-campus Internet connection. You can connect your Internet-capable devices over ResNet’s wireless network or through the wired port in your room. The ResNet website at has details on equipment requirements and sign-up procedures. Campus Computer labs

You can make use of the campus wireless network and computer labs on campus. The cost is $252 per academic year.  You sign up through the Dept. of Residence business office in Redeker Center.

Your meal plan includes Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars are a part of your meal plan. They are “stored” in a declining balance account that can be accessed with your ID card. Dining Dollars are good at 13 locations on campus: Piazza and Rialto dining centers; food carts in Schindler Education Center, the Wellness/Recreation Center and Curris Business Building; the 23rd Street Market convenience store in Commons; Biscotti’s convenience store in Redeker; plus Prexy’s, Chats and Essentials in Maucker Union. Hawkeye Community College students living at UNI must sign a waiver releasing verification of enrollment, grades and other pertinent information to Lyn Redington, Director of Residence Life. This provides verification of enrollment and academic progress.  The form is mailed with the contract application.

Method of Payment

Payments on the room and meal plan follows UNI’s billing schedule. Timely payment assures your continued access to UNI housing. If you choose the monthly payment option, there will be a one-time fee each semester of $20.  You must enroll in a payment plan if you choose the monthly payment option.  Enroll online at
Monthly payments are due on the 20th of each month. A chart detailing the monthly billing dates and the monthly due dates is available on the Office of Business Operations website at
For those who choose to pay once per semester, the payment due dates are August 24 for fall semester and January 20 for spring semester.

UNI alert system

HCC students living on campus may be part of the UNI Alert system. When you receive HCC orientation information in August, you will have instructions for gaining access to the online system where you can state your preferences for UNI Alert messages: cell phone, voicemail, text-message, and/or email.
