Emergency Contact Information Sheet

Complete the Emergency Contact Information form. Bring this completed form to check in at your hall. The information you provide will be retained in the residence hall for emergencies. It is your responsibility to update the contact information if it changes.

UNI Alert System

Complete the contact information to be included in the UNI Alert System. The UNI Alert System notifies the campus community of emergencies and threats to physical safety in emergency situations: tornado, violence, hazardous material incident, cancelled classes, University closure, etc. Notification is by cell phone, landline phone, e-mail and text message. Early Move-In Arrangements

Check-in begins at 8 a.m., Friday, August 22. There is a $30 early arrival charge for coming on Thursday. If you are coming early as part of an official UNI departmental activity (e.g. band, intercollegiate athletics, UNI jobs) make arrangements early, through that department. There will be an additional charge, per day, for these official early arrivals (paid by you or the department).

Renter's Insurance

The Department of Residence is not responsible for personal belongings in a room. We suggest you purchase renter's insurance, which is fairly inexpensive. Often, this can be purchased as a rider to a parent's homeowner policy.

Forwarding Address

Contact magazine or other periodical publishers about publications that you want sent to you at UNI, to let them know that your address should be changed to the address you get in your assignment letter. Do this about a month before move-in weekend.

Parking Permits

New resident hall students have the option of purchasing a C ($47 for the year) or an R ($26 for the year) permit. The purchase of a C permit does not guarantee the holder a space in C parking areas. Overflow parking for the residence halls is generally in the R parking areas. People with R permits are never allowed to park in C parking areas.

Parking permits (decals) for 2008-2009 should be purchased and displayed by the time classes begin on Monday, August 20. This can be done anytime after August 1, at the Department of Public Safety. It can also be done online prior to August 15.

To purchase online, go to the UNI Web site and locate the MyUNIverse link. Once you have logged on with your university ID and password, find the Tools for Success box (right column) and click onto the Forms Repository. Clicking on the P in the index will take you to the parking permit application (where you will need to log in before you complete it). Questions regarding this should be addressed to UNI Police at 319-273-2710.

When you come to campus, make sure to park only in lots designated "C" or "R" if you have a "C" permit. Parking permits will be processed and billed in August. Changes or cancellations can be made to a current application until August 1.

Apply Online for a Great Job

Earn money, get great employment experience, and overcome homesickness through contacts you'll make at work in UNI's Dining Services. More than 750 students work together, all over campus, helping to provide high quality dining services to more than 4,500 diners every day. These part-time jobs range from 6-40 hours a week; you determine the number of hours. Pay starts at $7.75 an hour. (If you haven't worked on campus before, you will need a document to establish identity, a driver's license or voter registration card, and a document to establish eligibility to work, either a social security card or birth certificate.) You can apply as soon as you get to campus. ResNet

ResNet is UNI's computer network system, which provides free Internet access to all on-campus residents. Each room has a network port for you to connect your computer to the Internet. In addition, the Department of Residence has student employees (RCCs) to help with any problems you may have when connecting to ResNet. To have internet access and support, your computer needs three things:

1. A network card. Most new computers come with network cards already installed. If your computer does not have a network card (also called an Ethernet card), you may purchase one at most computer and electronics stores. All cards are supported by ResNet.

2. A network cable. Your computer will need a network cable, which is different than a phone cord used by a modem. Although you can purchase a network cable at almost any computer story, the Department of Residence offers network cables in UNI purple (20') and gold (40') that can be purchased during move-in.

3. A computer that meets ResNet's minimum requirements:
Computers running Microsoft Windows must have:

Windows Vista, XP, or 2000 (3.x, NT, 95, 98, and ME are NOT supported).
At least a Pentium III processor equivalent or higher.
256 MB of RAM

Macintosh computers must have:

OS X or higher installed.

Software:

You must install the University's anti-virus software, which is free to all students. This software can be installed when you arrive on campus.
All critical updates for the computer's operating system must be installed and be configured to get critical updates automatically.

What should I do with my computer before coming to campus? It is a very good idea to update your computer BEFORE coming to campus. To do this from home, visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com for Windows computers or Software Update for Macintosh computers.

Note: Please bring ALL CDs that were shipped with your computer to campus in the event that they are needed, especially System or Operating System disks.
