Accommodations in the Residence Halls
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the University of Northern Iowa will provide special accommodations (i.e., air conditioners, single room) in select residence hall rooms of students with documented disabilities. In order to access accommodations, individuals must present documentation indicating that the condition substantially limits some major life activity.
Typically, allergy conditions are not considered disabling, however all accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis.
REQUEST PROCEDURE FOR ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS
Students wishing to request a special accommodation in the residence halls should complete the Request for Services and Documentation Review Form (Word Format) as fully as possible.
Students should submit the completed form, along with the Evaluator Form (Word Format) (to be completed by a health care professional), to:
Mailing Address: Student Disability Services, 103 Student Health Center, University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0385.
Fax: (319) 273-6884
If SUBMITTED DOCUMENTATION MEETS UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS: Students will receive a letter stating their approval for special accommodations in the residence halls from Student Disability Services(SDS). The Department of Residence (DOR) will be notified by copy of the letter.
If SUBMITTED DOCUMENTATION IS INSUFFICIENT: Students will receive a letter denying their request and/or stating additional, neccessary information for re-evaluation.
