SDS Graduate Assistant Position Description

Graduate Student Assistants are hired as needed, generally in the fall semester of each academic year. Appointments may last one to two years and may run anywhere from nine to twelve months depending on the availability of the student.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Serves as point of contact for students, faculty, and staff with inquiries or concerns regarding accessability issues on campus.

  • Meets with prospective students to explain resources available at UNI for students with disabilities.

  • Consults with University faculty and staff regarding ADA requirements and reasonable accommodation.

  • Consults with agencies and resources outside the University regarding ADA requirements and reasonable accommodation.

  • Assists students who are blind, visually impaired, or have learning disabilities affecting their ability to use standard print in obtaining course texts in an alternate format.

  • Assists in data collection for required reports.

  • Meets with students who are eligible for services through the Office of Student Disability Services to arrange accommodations for specific types of abilities.

  • Helps to maintain the database and student files.

  • Maintains supply of SDS forms in staff offices.

  • Other duties as assigned by Coordinator and Program Associate.

 

SUPERVISION

 

Supervision is provided by the SDS Coordinator.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computerized word processing is required.
