039 Computer Laboratory Policies
Basic Computer Use | Class Policies
Turning Computers ON | Shutting Comptuers OFF
- Students will enter through the south door of 039 Lab. Students will not permitted in the office or adjacent classrooms without direct teacher supervision. Students will be supervised in the laboratory at all times by the responsible teacher.
- Food, beverages, and gum will not be brought to or consumed in the laboratory.
- Roller chairs will be left at computer workstations. Stationary chairs will be used in the demonstration area. If chairs are moved, they will be returned to their normal places before the class leaves.
- Computers and related equipment will not be moved, disconnected or reconnected. Students will not change any wiring without direct teacher supervision.
- Programs or files will not be downloaded to the computer from the Internet without teacher knowledge and permission. Only those programs needed for class lessons will be used. Napster and AOL, specifically, should not be downloaded to computers. Discs other than data discs for class materials will not be used in class without direct teacher supervision.
- Computer program and equipment settings will not be changed without teacher knowledge and permission. Monitor screen backgrounds will not be changed from the standard blue or light green. Screen savers are not to be downloaded or activated. Monitor settings are not to be changed either by monitor adjustments or changing control panels. Shortcut icons are not to be added to screens without teacher approval.
- Before leaving the classroom, counter areas, workstation shelves, and the floor will be checked to see that waste paper is disposed and books, handouts, etc., are put away.
- Computers will be be left ON all day until the end of the last period of classes. They will be shut down using Windows shutdown procedures (see below). Switches on monitors will be left ON all of the time. Powerstrips will be left ON all of the time. Equipment will not be unplugged unless there is some type of safety problem with the equipment.
- Teachers using the lab will report all problems to PLS Instructional Services or to Dr. Darrow.

Teacher Checklist for starting and ending class:
- All computer programs and files closed. All connections to the server will be logged off. Computers returned to "blue screen" at the end of periods 1 through 7; turned off at the end of period 8 or the end of the school day.
- All chairs put in order. Roller chairs pushed in at computer work stations. Other chairs arranged or stacked in the demonstration area. Keyboards and mice arranged neatly.
- All paper, etc. cleared from floor and work areas.
- Students will inform the teacher of any problems with computers at the start of and during class. Teachers will leave a note regarding any computer problems, specifying the computer and describing the problem. Indicate if there was a problem with the computer at the beginning of the class period.
- Windows will be closed and locked at end of last period. All doors to the area will be locked before leaving.
