Materials needed for class: These materials should be brought to class each day.
  1. Student Planner
  2. Three-ring Notebook for 8-1/2 by 11 paper. Used for keeping class notes, handouts, research notes. evaluated homework, review and study.
  3. Lined paper for notebook.
  4. Quadrille paper tablet, 8-1/2 x 11 or 11-1/2 This paper is laid out in 1/4" blue-line squares. It will be used for technical sketching and other kinds of sketches.
  5. Ball-point pen with black or blue ink.
  6. No 2 pencil or mechanical drawing pencils if you choose to get them.
Office Hours and Contacting the Teacher
  1. The teacher's regular office hours are 10:45 to 12:00 noon and 45 minutes after school on regular class days (even) when there is no early dismissal or late start. Office location is 120, the CAD Lab.
  2. Students are encouraged to contact the teacher via e-mail ddarrow@hudson.k12.ia.us whenever they have questions, have been or will be absent.
  3. Assignments and most handouts will available on the teacher's web site http://ddarrow.hudson.iowapages.org/index.html.
  4. Point scores/grades for assignments as well as cumulative point scores/grades-to-date are available on the electronic grading system as soon as they are evaluated.
  5. The teacher will usually be available for a telephone call during office hours at 988-4226 ext. 120. However, the teacher may be getting lunch or working in the production area during some of the office schedule times.
Absence policies:
See pages 10-12 of the Hudson High School 2005-2006 Student Handbook.
  1. The attendance policies on pp. 10-12 of the Student Handbook will be followed.
  2. Students who know they will be absent should contact the teacher ahead of the absence to receive assignments.
  3. Students who are not able to contact the teacher ahead of the absence should contact the teacher as soon as possible to receive assignments.
  4. Where possible the teacher will receive assignments via e-mail when the student is absent.
Tardy policy:
See Page 12 of the Hudson High School 2005-2006 Student Handbook.
  1. Students should be seated in their assigned seats at one of the center tables before the tardy bell rings.
  2. Students should enter the classroom with sufficient time to walk to their seats before the bell rings.
  3. We will meet in Room 120, the CAD Lab, every class day unless notified before class that we will start class elsewhere. We will be working in the outside building during some class periods.
Bookbags and other personal items:
  1. Book bags or backpacks and other student belongings will be stored during class in locations designated by the teacher.
Class startup policies:
  1. Students should stay seated until attendance is taken and the teacher indicates the class will begin.
  2. Students should be getting out their notebook, writing materials, and assignments while attendance is taken. They should copy any new assignments from the whiteboard to their planner.
  3. As soon as the teacher indicates that attendance has been taken, students should hand in any assignments that are due.
Leaving the classroom and other general rules:
  1. Students are expected to know and follow the rules of the Student Handbook.
  2. Students should notify and receive permission from the teacher before leaving the class or classroom during class time.
  3. Students are to follow the rules on pages 12-13 of the Student Handbook before leaving the school building.
  4. Students are expected to remain in the classroom at the end of the class period until excused by the teacher.
  5. Students should fill out their "Planner" and have it approved by the teacher to go to the bathroom or leave the classroom for any other reason.
  6. Students should immediately notify the teacher of an illness, an accident, or any other emergency.
  7. Students should immediately notify the teacher about any tool or equipment which is not functioning as it should or any other hazard.
  8. Students should use ONLY the tools, equipment, and supplies for which they have received specific instruction and approval for use by the teacher.
  9. See p. 41 of the Student Handbook. Students should use the telephone in the HS Office for personal calls at appropriate times. The telephone in the classroom is for teacher and emergency use only. Cell phones should not be used during class time.
Emergency procedures: Instructions for several crisis situations are in a booklet on the wall near the telephone.
Fire alarm: Continuous tone
  1. Leave materials on your desk.
  2. Line up and walk quietly out the doors into the hallway. Do NOT crowd or push into other people. Turn left in the hallway and walk to the Commons. Turn right and walk outside the west entrance of the building. Move at least 100 ft. away from the building onto the rock parking area. Stay together as a class group. The teacher will take roll to see that everyone is out of the building.
  3. Walk back to the classroom and be seated when an "All-clear" is given.
  4. The doors should be closed and lights turned off when last person is out of the classroom.
Tornado alarm: Intermittent tone and/or intercom announcement
  1. Walk quietly out the doors into the hallway. Do NOT crowd or push into other people.
  2. Be seated on the floor along the hallway wall adjacent to our classroom until "All-clear" is given. Face the wall, tuck heads down, and cover heads with arms as much as possible. Stay as far away from exit doors and glass as possible..
Computer Use: See pp. 31-32 in the Student Handbook.
  1. Students are expected to know and follow the school rules for computer use.
Moving between classrooms during class time: From time to time we will move to the production lab, ICN classroom, or other areas during classtime. We will follow the following guidelines:
  1. Stay together as a group.
  2. Walk quietly without any horseplay.
  3. Not interfere with any class or group of students along the way.
  4. Stay in the destination area until the group returns or is dismissed.
Cleanup and dismissal policies:
  1. A cleanup time is designated to begin at least 5 minutes before dismissal time. The teacher may call cleanup before the general 5-minute designated time.
  2. Students are to continue working on classwork until cleanup time is called. Once cleanup is called, students are to stop working on classwork and begin cleanup activities.
  3. Students are expected to perform assigned cleanup activities during the cleanup period. This includes assigned classroom activities as well as taking care of their personal materials. All students are expected to perform the following general acticivities:
    1. Carefully storing tools, supplies, and project work in designated places.
    2. Carefully closing down computers and pushing in chairs.
    3. Putting all waste from floor and workspace areas in an appropriate waste container.
    4. Pushing and aligning chairs under tables before leaving (or putting them on top of tables as directed on some occassions).
  4. Students are to remain seated until dismissal by the teacher.
