Price Laboratory School [PLS] is organized as part of the Department of Teaching within the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa. PLS enrolls children from 6 weeks old through 12th grade, with a total enrollment of more than 600. The school includes the Early Childhood Development Center, PLS Elementary School, Northern University Middle School, and Northern University High School. In addition to providing an excellent educational program for enrolled students, the school serves as a primary field experience center for undergraduate teacher education students enrolled in education and methods classes. PLS faculty also provide professional development services for Iowa educators.

At present there is a shortage of about 200 Technology Education teachers in Iowa, and a shortage of 3100 nationwide. This shortage will probably continue for several years. The Technology Education teacher education major and minor at UNI are housed in the Industrial Technology Department of the College of Natural Sciences. See Technology Education Major.
