Residential Sectional Views

Objectives: Students will:

  1. Know how sectional views are identified on a floor plan.
  2. Know the basic elements shown in a sectional view from the footing through the roof ridge.
  3. Develop a concept of placement of building lines which will be used when drawing elevations.
  4. Better understand how the elevations and foundation plan relate to the floorplan.Use basic symbols to represent elements of the drawing, e.g., ends of strucutal lumber, ends of finished wood, symbols for concrete, etc.
  5. Become familiar with basic terminology and building parts such as: footing, foundation wall, column, sill seal, sill, floor joist, header, subfloor, sole plate, stud, wall sheathing, sill, header, top plate, cap plate, rafter or truss, ceiling joist, roof sheating, shingles, etc.
