| Celtic music sessions every first FRIDAY of the month, September through May, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., at the Vibe Coffeeshop, above Bought Again Books (through the red door), 909 West 23rd St., in Cedar Falls, IA. Click here for a map. |
| Here is the schedule for the 2005-06 sessions: |
| September 1, 2005 | October 6, 2005 | November 3, 2005 |
| December 1, 2005 (Christmas Ceilidh) | January 5, 2006 | February 2, 2006 |
| March 2, 2006 | No session | May 4, 2006 |
The sessions are free of charge and open to the public, both to listen, and more importantly, to come play. Celtic music styles include Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and Cape Breton, but often extend to American traditional and we'll even throw in a little Bluegrass. These informal jam sessions were introduced to the Cedar Valley area in January of 2004. Sessions are informal, and are great opportunities to share music and meet people. Experience levels range from beginning players to advanced, and the format is simple: players pick a tune and everyone joins in. Long popular at public houses in the U.K., “sessioning” has gradually spread throughout the U.S. as the influence of Celtic music has grown. |
Typically, the kind of instruments played at a session are the kind you would normally associate with Irish or Scottish music—like fiddles, flutes or mandolins. But we've also played sessions that included a tuba and clarinet (the tuba was especially fun and the clarinet made us sound like a klezmer band). We welcome any acoustic instrument (and its musician). The object is to have fun! |
| For more information on the sessions, contact Cliff or Michelle Ozmun at (319) 277-5115 or cliffoz@cfu.net . |
Hope to see you there! |
