The UNI International Dance Theatre is a student based performing group sponsored by the School of Health, Physical Education, and Leisure Services at University of Northern Iowa. The International Dance Theatre is the performing group of the UNI Folk and Ballroom Dancers, which was founded in 1957. It performs a varied repertoire of multicultural and ballroom dances from around the world, including the United States. Daniel Wells has been the director of the International Dance Theatre since the fall of 2006. The goal of International Dance Theatre is to expose students to a variety of different dances as well as a variety of fellow students, each with varied dance and cultural experiences. International students are encouraged to bring dances from their countries to share with the group. Members are also given the chance to attend conferences and workshops throughout the country to learn new dances which they can bring back to the group.
No dance experience is required to join IDT. |

| The UNI International Dance Theatre presents two concerts a
year. In the fall, the company joins with Orchesis
Dance Company in the Family Fest Dance Concert, and in the spring,
IDT produces a separate, professional dance concert. In
addition to formal stage performances, the company presents numerous
road shows and mini-concerts each year, and has
performed throughout the Midwest, as well as Washington and British Columbia.
In 2005, IDT, along with members from Orchesis Dance Company, presented
American folk dance styles in Hong Kong (to see pictures of this event,

group is also available for school residencies which can include assembly
performances as well as workshops for multicultural dance for all grade
levels. For further information, to book a performance, or get information
about upcoming events contact daniel.wells@uni.edu.
