Presenter: Patrick B. McGrath, Ph.D.
Title: Cognitive Behavioral and Exposure & Response Prevention Therapy Techniques to Assist with Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma
Dr. McGrath is the Director of the Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Program at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Dr. McGrath directs both a Partial Hospitalization and an Intensive Outpatient Program. He is Co-Director of the School Anxiety/School Refusal Program. Recently, Dr. McGrath was awarded a grant from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs to begin a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder treatment program for returning veterans.
In addition to treating clients, Dr. McGrath trains students from graduate schools across the metropolitan Chicago area and makes professional presentations both locally and nationally.
His presentation will review why Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure & Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) are effective and demonstrate how to incorporate CBT and ERP techniques into practice. While the idea of using CBT and ERP for trauma can appear to some as retraumatizing patients, in reality they are the best tools professionals can have in their therapeutic “tool box.”
