Student Organizations

The two following organizations are available for student involvement through the counseling program:

Student Advisory Committee (SAC)

Student lead organization that is designed to allow for student/faculty exchange of information, encourage student feedback to faculty, and works together to build student/faculty "sense of community". The SAC has been responsible for projects in the following areas in the past: advocacy projects including social issues awareness; raises funding for departmental scholarships to the Iowa School Counseling Association Conference and the Iowa Mental Health Counseling Association Conference; works on funding for student used resources such as audio/visual equipment in the taping rooms and books for the resource library; organizes S.P.I.C.E. events. S.P.I.C.E. stands for special populations in counselor education. The purpose of this program is to bring guest speakers to campus to share on specialty topics in counseling.

Upsilon Nu Iota

Upsilon Nu Iota is a chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators. It's inception at the University of Northern Iowa was in Spring of 2006. The goal of CSI is to promote leadership, scholarship, research and professionalism in the counseling profession. Membership is open to students who have completed at least one full academic semester (9 credits) and have a 3.5 gpa. For more information on CSI, visit their website at http://www.csi-net.org/
