Research Interests

Dr. Meany-Walen’s major areas of research are effectiveness of play-based interventions for children including individual counseling, group counseling, teacher training, and parent training. She is also interested in counselor development and supervision. 

Service

Dr. Meany-Walen has held a variety of professional counseling positions including, working as a substance abuse counselor, counselor at a center for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, school-based counselor, school counselor, counselor at community agencies, and contracted counselor at a residential home for foster children. Most of her work is with children and adolescents using play therapy and expressive arts techniques. She has also done parent and teacher training.
