Dr. Baskerville’s research examines the history of African-American musical forms, emphasizing the blues, and including such popular figures as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. He is the author of The Impact of Black Nationalist Ideology on American Jazz Music of the 1960’s and 1970’s (2003). A native of Waterloo, Iowa, he enjoys playing bass for a local band, “Checker and the Blue Tones.”
Professor Baskerville teaches a variety of courses, including African-American History, the Introduction to the Study of History, American Civilization, and seminars on special topics relating to the Great Migration.
