Research Interests

Professor Roberts’s first book, American Alchemy: The California Gold Rush and Middle Class Culture (2000), won several awards. He is currently working on a book exploring American music in the 19th and early 20th century. He is also interested in perceptions of the frontier and wilderness from 1870 to 1970. Dr. Roberts enjoys the outdoors, including fly-fishing and hiking.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Roberts teaches Environmental History, U. S. Popular Culture, Labor History, Introduction to the Study of History, and American Civilization.
