Community Engagement

students with Sen. DanielsenService, along with scholarship and teaching, is a critical component of faculty excellence.  Individual faculty members participate in a variety of projects and programs that supplement the university's commitment to our community and others throughout Iowa.

In addition to promoting individual service among our faculty and staff, CSBS houses many centers and programs that enhance our mission of research, service, and education.

Students

Departments and programs in CSBS have internship, field experience, service learning and research opportunities that allow students to work with communities around the state and nation. Please contact individual departments for more information.

Faculty

Many faculty in CSBS link their research and/or teaching to service activities in the community. Mark Grey, Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Iowa Center for Immigrant Leadership and Integration, works with local communities on immigrant issues.   Sugumaran Ramanthan, Professor of Geography and director of GeoTree, uses Geographic Information Systems to plot out the spread of diseases for communities and the state, while Allen Hays, Professor of Political Science and director of the Public Policy Program, has linked his funded research with the development of low-income housing in Waterloo, Iowa. These and many other faculty in the college work to make their research and teaching serve the people and communities of Iowa and the nation.
