CSBR began in 1967 with a focus on university and student-based projects.  Since then, CSBR has conducted over 600 research projects on a wide variety of topics.  More than 350,000 personal interviews have been conducted with adult Iowans in the course of these projects; this is equivalent to more than 15% of the Iowa adult population.  Selected students are given direct research experience working with professional staff on center projects.
